On Friday February 17th, representatives of the Berlin Bruisers and our FLINTA* Team (Anne-Katrin Retzlaff, Maria Nieland, Rachel Schneider, Ulrich Stadfeld) attended the award ceremony for the top 10 winners of the Berlin Sports 2022 Future Award at the Rotes Rathaus. The selection for the 2022 Future Award was based on projects and ideas which engaged with various innovative topics, such as the environment, integration and inclusion, children's and youth sports, digitization, and general club development.
Our submission, the in March 2022 founded FLINTA* Team, represents the forefront of inclusive sports in Berlin. After beginning training in March, the team played in their first competitive 7s regional league tournament in September of 2022. At the time of submission, we had 30 active members. The team has big plans for the future: continuing to grow, organizing international events with other FLINTA* rugby players, and outreach to FLINTA* youth.
Of the 48 applications, there were 20 winners and we placed 7th overall. Seventh place came with a cash prize of 1.000€ which we plan to use for upcoming events and team costs. We would like to once again thank the Landessportbund Berlin for recognizing our FLINTA* Team as being trailblazers of sports in Berlin.
